Cancer Council Queensland’s Relay For Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for research, prevention and support services.
Around 1,000 people are expected to take part in the annual event to be held this year on September 16-17 at Doug Jennings Park in Main Beach.
In the 18 hour overnight event teams keep a baton moving in a relay style walk or run to raise funds.
All funds raised are invested in vital cancer research, prevention programs and support programs for locals affected by cancer.
On the Gold Coast, more than 3630 people are diagnosed with cancer each year and more than 1,120 die from the disease.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan said local support made a vital difference to the charity’s work.
“Relay is more than just a fundraiser, it’s a community event for a great cause, supporting locals affected by cancer,” Ms McMillan said.
