40-50 boats destroyed in ferocious fire

UP to as many as 50 sailing boats have either been damaged or destroyed in a massive fire on Sydney’s lower north shore.

Flames took hold of a council-owned boatshed at the Longueville Sailing Club on Stuart Street about 5am on Sunday.

In a statement, NSW Police said between 40 and 50 sailing boats were damaged or destroyed in the blaze.


The inferno has since been extinguished and a crime scene has been established.

It was not immediately known how the fire started.

The scene will be examined by detectives and fire investigators.
