Half a tonne of marijuana found growing inside seven bedroom ‘hydro house’

POLICe have allegedly found more than half a tonne of hydroponic cannabis growing inside a seven bedroom house nestled in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Detectives from the Drug and Serious Crime Group raided the Wongawallan home on Friday morning and allegedly located over 500 kilograms of cannabis.

Dozens of cannabis plants were allegedly found growing all throughout the home, which police allege had been transformed into an elaborate hydroponic ‘growhouse’.

“During the search of the seven-bedroom address, investigators located a purpose built facility designed for the hydroponic growth and cultivation of cannabis,” police said in a statement.

Police said officers found more than half a million dollars worth of marijuana in the home.

A 55-year-old man was arrested at the property and charged with producing and possessing dangerous drugs, and possessing things in connection with the production of dangerous drugs.

He is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on June 4.
