Alleged Gold Coast drug smuggler back behind bars

THE man accused of being behind a massive canabis drug smuggling syndicate is back behind bars after allegedly breaching his bail.

Joshua Thornbury faced Southport Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of fraud and possessing stolen property.

The 30-year-old and older brother Terrenc were arrested in April following raids across the south-east which netted over $1 million in canabis and cash as well as over $10 million in assets.

They included luxury cars, eight buses and a Queenslander house.

Police allege the brothers were the masterminds behind a drug smuggling syndicate which used perfumed suitcases to bring drugs worth millions through Queensland airports.

Joshua Thornbury will now stay in jail until at least December after police allege he had a fraudulent driver’s licence issued shortly after his bail was granted.

The matter has been adjourned until December 17.
