The cat has finally been let out of the bag from the set of Two and a Half Men with the role of new star Ashton Kutcher revealed.

It's been revealed Kutcher, 33, will play an internet billionaire with a broken heart named Walden Schmidt when he arrives as the new star of the US sitcom.

The comedic actor, known for his roles on That 70's Show, Punk'd and feature films Dude, Where's My Car? and What Happens in Vegas, will fill the void left by former star Charlie Sheen who was spectacularly fired from the show in March after a series of bizarre outbursts and erratic behaviour.

It is rumoured the death and funeral of Sheen's character Charlie Harper will feature in the season's early episodes.

Continuing stars Jon Cryer and Angus T Jones will return to their roles as Alan and Jake Harper.
