It started as a joke with a friend, but made Wynter Gordon a star.

The 26-year-old 'Dirty Talk' singer was on the Gold Coast last week, in town for the Jupiters Hotel and Casino Pool Party.

The breakthough song catapulted the American singer into the spotlight after it went viral on the internet.

However despite its success, the singer revealed the song "was a blessing and a curse".

"A lot of poeple are judging me off dirty talk," she said.

"In every interview I did it was 'how dirty are you, can you be more dirty?'"

"I was like, it's not all about being a sexual woman, there are other parts."

In a bid to break free of her stereotype as a dance artist, Wynter Gordon will be releasing a free album titled April Fools.

"I wanna get out of the nightclub scene and play a little more of the things that i want," she said.

"I dont think the world has soon who I am yet."

Although remaining tight-lipped about the details, Wynter did admit her inspiration for the album was Phil Collins.

Wynter Gordon's album will be available for download in February.
