The Gold Coast's unemployment rate has been reduced from the previous month's 6.2 per cent. According to the latest employment statistics, it's now down to 5.6 per cent.
We've also seen more than 2,000 jobs created during the past month.
Mayor Ron Clarke says it's a positive result. "This is certainly a reason to be positive with a record 310,300 people now employed on the Gold Coast," he said. "But we are still above the State's unemployment rates so there is much more to be done."
Cr Clarke also said the new statistics are wonderful news for the Coast as a range of newly approved developments is set to deliver more local jobs.
“There is a light at the end of the tunnel with a range of newly approved developments set to deliver more local jobs. Just this week, two have been recommended for approval based on projections from the developer, these could generate up to 750 new jobs. Overall, the confidence in our future triggered by the Commonwealth Games must not be underestimated,” he said.
