When Riley John Boulter entered this world he decided his birth would be a family affair.
At five this morning, his mother Joanne woke up feeling pains in her stomach which soon changed to contractions after going to the bathroom.
Knowing that the baby was ready to come after realising her water had broken, her husband Adam and their two children, Alex and Amy took on the role of midwives in their Pacific Pines home.
While they called the hospital for help, Adam reverted to memories of medical shows on television to deliver the baby boy on their bathroom floor.
"Instincts just kicked in and I just remembered what I had seen on TV," he said.
Joanne knew the birth had to happen then and there. "It all happened incredibly quickly... I wasn't going anywhere," she said.
By the second push, Joanne and Adam had a healthy baby boy weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces.
The father of three said while the plan wasn't to have the birth at home - it was extra special.
"Everytime we walk into the bathroom, we'll always have that special memory now."
While their other two kids were born two weeks premature, today's bundle of joy arriving exactly at 38 weeks, made it three.
Gold Coast Hospital Midwife Unit Manager Di Evans said it was a picture perfect finish, although things could have easily gone wrong.
"It is quite rare... they come when they want to come," she said.
If the birth had happened four hours later, no one would have been home to help Joanne.
"The family did such a great job and their daughter stayed on the phone to the ambulance throughout the whole ordeal.
"There are some obvious values in these TV programs which show people giving birth and what to do in the situation."
The ambulance arrived at their home 10 minutes after baby Riley was born and after a quick visit to Gold Coast Hospital the now family of five were able to go back home.
