Weather forecasters say the sun and blue skies won't last, with more rain on the way for South-East Queensland.

Gold Coasters enjoyed highs of 29 degrees today but gusty winds and showers are expected to return this evening, ending a two-day reprieve from the wild weather that has inundated the region.

Steady rainfall is expected to continue landing in the state's south into next week.
