Midwives at the Gold Coast Hospital's Birthing Centre welcomed a generous donation today, in appreciation to staff for International Midwives Day.
Father of two, Andrew Hamilton today donated $4,000 to the centre.
Di Evans, Gold Coast Hospital Birthing Services Unit Manager, says the money will go towards the purchase of six additional breast milk pumps to help mothers feed their newborns.
"Breast milk is very important for newborn babies as it provides nourishment to the infants and guards them from illness," Ms Evans said.
She says the support will help meet the demands of the centre's high breast feeding rates.
"The Birthing Centre currently does not have enough pumps for mothers who can not breastfeed," said Ms Evans.
Mr Hamilton says he appreciates the care and support the Midwives provided to his family and wants to help in the recognition to International Midwives Day.
"Both my wife and I are grateful for the care and support we have received from Midwives," said Mr Hamilton.
"Following the birth of my first daughter at the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital Birthing Centre I made a donation then too."
"I am donating to the Gold Coast Hospital this year because it is where my youngest daughter was born," Mr Hamilton said.
International Midwives Day is celebrated on 5 May to recognise Midwives internationally for providing birth and postnatal care.
