Tallebudgera Beach has received the top honour of being named Queensland's cleanest beach.

The local stretch of sand and surf won the award as part of the Keep Australia Beautiful campaign.

Deputy Major Daphne McDonald said a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to keep our beaches in pristine condition.

"Residents should feel proud of their efforts because we are so lucky to have such wonderful beaches and it's up to all of us to do our bit and look after them," said Cr McDonald.

"Our beaches are a valuable asset and I believe Gold Coasters are passionate about protecting them."

Gold Coast winners in other categories include Tallebudgera for resource recovery, Kirra for environmental innovation, Southport Broadwater Parklands for energy innovation and Burleigh for littler prevention.
