UPDATED 1pm: The torrential rain in Southeast Queensland is continuing to cause chaos.

There has been more flash flooding with hundreds of calls being made to the State Emergency Service.

Swift Water Rescue Crews were called to rescue stranded people on Mudgeeraba this morning.

Three people were walked through floodwaters from two cars on Somerset Road.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a flood alert at 11am, with rapid rises occuring along the Nerang River, with moderate flood levels at
Mudgeeraba.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in northern NSW continues to worsen.

Army helicopters have been called in to help residents isolated by floodwaters on the mid north coast.

More than a thousand properties are isolated near Bellingin, Darkwood, the upper Maclay and Mullumbimbee.

The Gold Coast Disaster Centre has been re-activated.
