Gold Coast Councillors will today vote on a remuneration package, which'd see the future Mayor get an $86,000 a year pay rise.
The increase, if approved, would take the Mayor's income to $212,581 an increase of 7.7 per cent, slightly less than what his or her Brisbane counterpart earns.
Councillors would be in line for an extra 5 per cent, meaning they'd be raking in $126,000 per annum. Committee Chairs would get a $2000 pay rise also taking their earnings to $126,000.
Outgoing Mayor Ron Clarke and the Local Government Association of Queensland have told the Bulletin "legislation ensured the council had no choice but the accept the" Local Government Remuneration and Discipline Tribunals "findings".
Councillor Eddy Sarroff has indicated that he'll vote against the recommendations.
