Fifteen year old Teresa Tang has been crowned Australia’s 'brainiest' student.
The Brisbane State High student won the final of the Australian Brain Bee Challenge at Jupiters Casino today, beating more than 5600 students for the title.
The neuroscience competition tests high school students on a range of topics, including intelligence, memory, emotions, sleep, Alzheimer's disease and stroke.
"I didnt know anything about the brain before the competition, so I thought i should try it," she said.
In front of a live audience, Teresa competed against other state winners in the national final of the competition, which included a brain-teasing anatomy exam, doctor-patient diagnosis and a neuroscience quiz.
A wannabe neurosurgeon, Teresa said the final quiz was the toughest.
"The hardest question was 'What type of stain would stain an astrocytic tumor'. That had me stuck for a while," she said.
Teresa will now head to South Africa in June to compete in the International Brain Bee Challenge.
