Sea World's been targeted by an animal rights group, for selling seafood at its restaurants and kiosks.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Australia campaigns director Jason Baker sent a letter to the general manager of the Main Beach theme park, demanding seafood be taken off the menu.

The Brisbane Times reports, the campaign was sparked by Mudgeeraba resident Zoe Hermans, who contacted PETA. It's believed the vegetarian was concerned about flake being sold by Sea World, which is a "most active" campaigner for animal rights.

"Being an organisation that's all about educating the community about how amazing sea life is, I just thought it was quite hypocritical, especially the selling of flake," she said.

"One of their main attractions and one of their key education points is Shark Bay, educating people about how beautiful sharks are, but yet they're selling shark burgers."

Ms Hermans went on to liken it to selling seal or dolphin steaks, while Mr Baker said it was the same as "selling poodle burgers at a dog show".

A Sea World spokeswoman reportedly said the park's management had no comment on PETA's concerns.
