Business owners have lashed out at a plan to remove iconic palm trees in Surfers.

Palms and poincianas will be shifted from Surfers Paradise Boulevard to make room for the light rail project.

Phil Mumford from GoldinQ says they're in touch with an Arborist to make sure that as many trees as possible can be saved as they're relocated.

He adds that there will be landscaping along the route to ensure that Surfers doesn't turn into any more of a concrete jungle.

Business owners want to know exactly what the glitter strip will look like in the end.

A public meeting will be held on Thursday February 9 to discuss the plan.  Chevron Renaissance will play host from 10am.
