Mayor Ron Clarke has called for urgent action from the State Government on the Broadwater.
Mayor Clarke said it has been almost six months since the Government and Council jointly committed $1.5 million to establish a masterplan for the Broadwater.
However membership of the Broadwater Community Reference Group has yet to be announced.
“To this point, progress has been at a snail’s pace and the reality is we need real action sooner rather than later. The longer the master-planning process takes, the further away the long-term management solution is and the worse the problems get," said Cr Clarke.
The Mayor said he would be pushing for the Broadwater Community Reference Group membership to be announced as soon as possible and for master-planning work to be fast-tracked through council.
The masterplan for the Broadwater will outline long term waterway and land use management, as well as community, environmental and economic values of the area.
A draft of the masterplan is due to be released for public evaluation in September.
