The Gold Coast may soon be set to get a second casino.

We already have Jupiters Hotel and Casino in Broadbeach but now there's a proposal to build another at The Spit.

The plan put forward to the Queensland Government has the support of Mayor Tom Tate.

He said it is a good idea because "it shows we are a world class city and are willing to welcome high-level tourists".

Mayor Tate has also indicated it would fit in well with plans to build a cruise ship terminal at the Seaway.

Mayor Tate appeared confused at a tongue in cheek image in a local newspaper, which included a possible motorsports venue.

The Mayor commented on the image saying "something like that certainly wouldn't fit in with the city's tourism infrastructure".

He said if someone did seriously propose to build such a venue he'd prefer to see it based away from the CBD.
