Former Miss Universe Jesinta Campbell joined Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and Mayor Tom Tate at the official launch of the 34th Gold Coast Airport Marathon today.
Ms Campbell, who is an ambassador for ASICS, will be running in this year’s half marathon and told the crowd she is fully committed to finishing the race.
“Everyone knows that I’ve entered it. I’ve been tweeting about my training sessions, so I can’t chicken out now,” she said.

With the marathon taking place in just over two weeks, Premier Newman said entries are still flowing in and are currently tracking at eight per cent higher than this time last year.
“This is a good indicator that a record of more than 25,000 runners and walkers will line up on the starting line on the 30th June and 1st July, including more than 6,300 from interstate and close to 2,000 from overseas,” he said.
Currently 6100 Gold Coasters have entered to run in one of the marathon’s races.
Mayor Tate used a humorous approach to encourage more Gold Coasters to pull on their joggers and take part.
“Look at me, I’m not a marathon looking kinda guy but I participate. I’m a ten kilometre kinda guy. Get your partner, your wife, your girlfriend, get ‘em both, and get out there,” he said.
The 34th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon will be held over the weekend of 30 June and 1 July.
Races will include the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Queensland Health 5.7km Challenge and Dreamworld Junior Dash over 4km and 2km.
