Mayor Tom Tate is calling on Gold Coasters to head back to Tipplers.

Tipplers Licensed Cafe is now open to the public, with a smorgasbord of food and beverages on offer for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Councillor Cameron Caldwell joined the Mayor and media to officially open the cafe on Friday.

“I'm very proud of what they’ve done. I think this is a fabulous addition to the Island and will serve the public very well,” said Cr Caldwell.

Construction signs and fencing are still surround the old Tipplers Tavern, with Council unable to touch the property until a court decision on a Heritage listing application next month.

But Mr Tate said Council had prepared plans for either outcome.

“Either we refurbish it or we are looking at building a new property altogether,” he said.

“Come in and enjoy the cafe. Prove to us that it is in demand so we can make the place more popular and bigger than before,” he said.

Boaties wanting to check out the new cafe can visit on Friday’s for dinner, all day on Saturday, or for breakfast and lunch on a Sunday.
