Sam Stosur is getting set to kick off her campaign at the Australian Open today.

The Gold Coaster will hit Rod Laver Arena in the third match of the day, taking on Romania's Sorana Cirstea.

Ranked fifth in the world, Stosur has some work to do, after bombing-out in the second round of the Brisbane International and also in the opening round in Sydney.  Both times she suffered straight set defeats.

Sam has emerged victorious from her previous two meetings with Cirstea, in 2009 according to abc.net.au

Fellow Australian Lleyton Hewitt will also take to the court today, he'll be up against unseeded German Cedrik-Marcel Stebe tonight.

Yesterday 19-year-old Bernard Tomic advanced, taking down Fernando Verdasco.

It was no easy feat for the Gold Coaster, playing a four-hour marathon match to win 4-6 6-7 6-4 6-2 7-5.
