THE Arundel mosque threw open its doors to Gold Coasters yesterday, with organisers deeming its open day a huge success.
The event was organised in an attempt to ease religious tensions that have risen recently on the Gold Coast.
More than 500 locals attended the event, far exceeding an expected crowd of around 200.

Islamic Society President Hussin Goss says some people who attended the event told him the open day had changed their perceptions of Islam.
“People who went through tours of the mosque and asked the Imam and myself questions had their fears alleviated,” he said.
“They said its just like any other place of worship, with peace and harmony.”
Mr Goss also said the Arundel Mosque plans to have similar open day events in the future.
