Aust govt to funnel billions into cyber defence following attacks

The federal government is set to make a major announcement today, in relation to recent cyber attacks.

It’s set to spend around $1.35 billion protecting Australians from cyber crime, creating hundreds of jobs.

It comes after the Prime Minister warned the nation about a series of escalating attacks from a sophisticated state based hacker.

Around 500 cyber security specialists will be hired to boost our defence, with the funding to be rolled out over the next decade.

However, the federal Defence Minister Linda Reynolds has revealed to Channel Nine that today’s announcement is just the beginning.

“We are going to be making an announcement later this week to increasing it to $15 billion for defence, cyber defence and also information warfare,” Minister Reynold’s told The Today Show.
