Australia hoping to come back firing at the Gabba

STEVE Smith is being called on to pull off a classic captain’s knock when he returns to the crease against India on day three of the second test against India in Brisbane.

The caretaker skipper will resume at 65 not out, with Australia at four for 221.

Allrounder Mitch Marsh will join him at the crease on seven as they try to beat India’s first dig of 408.

Umesh Yadav has three wickets.

The only other Australian batsmen to manage a half century was Chris Rogers on 55, while Dave Warner scored 29, Shaun Marsh 32 and Shane Watson 25.
