Baby whale stuck in Gold Coast shark nets

A HUMPBACK whale calf has been rescued after becoming caught up in shark nets off the Gold Coast.

Early morning beach walkers spotted the juvenile entangled in the nets off Burleigh Beach about 6am.

Seaworld’s Marine Rescue team was called into action and rushed to the scene to help the giant mammal.

It took crews 30 minutes to remove the netting and disentangle the calf using specialised cutting equipment.

Once released, the juvenile swam away with its mother to continue on their southern migration.
