Bashing victim dies in hospital

THE homicide squad is investigating the death of a man who was brutally bashed and left to die on a suburban street in Melbourne over the weekend.

The 34-year-old was found lying unconscious in the middle of Drinkwater Crescent, near Talintyre Road, in Sunshine west just after 1am on Sunday.

It’s believed the victim was brutally bashed about four hours earlier and left to the die on the road.

The man was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening head injuries but sadly could not be saved.

Police released a statement this morning, confirming the man passed away in hospital last night.

Two men, aged 30 and 31, were arrested and questioned by police over the incident however both were later released without charge, pending further enquiries.

Police say an autopsy will be carried out this morning to determine exactly how the victim died.

The investigation by the Homicide Squad is ongoing.
