Bestjet customers urged to “contact airlines immediately” after company collapse

Australian travellers who have booked flights through budget airfare website Bestjet are being urged to contact their airline “immediately” following the collapse of the company.

The Queensland-based booking website went into Administration on 18 December 2018, with accounting firm Pilot Partners appointed voluntary administrators of Bestjet and its subsidiaries, Wynyard Travel and Brooklyn Travel.

In a statement on Friday, Mr Markey and Mr Bradley Vincent Hellen, of Pilot Partners, advised customers who had already received their flight tickets to contact their airline to confirm the booking.

Customers who have not received their tickets have also been urged to confirm their booking with the airline.

If the flights are not confirmed, administrators have advised travellers to contact their financial institution or travel insurance provider to “request a refund for your flight.”

Mr Markey said the administrators were unable to honour or refund any tickets not honoured by the airlines.

“The work of administrators is ongoing and, therefore, we can make no further comment at this point,” he said.
