Bike event causing traffic headaches for Gold Coast motorists

Motorists are being warned to expect delays as hundreds of cyclists make their way to the Gold Coast from Brisbane.

It’s all part of the Brisbane to Gold Coast bike challenge taking place today.

The worst of the delays are around the Broadwater Parklands where the event is finishing.

Marine Parade through Labrador and Southport is heavily congested.

There was also an earlier accident on Marine Parade at Southport adding to the delays.

There’s also significant delays on Smith St and North St.

The bike challenge has riders making their way along Hope Island Rd and Oxley Drive before heading through Hollywell and Runaway Bay via Bayview St, later linking up to Marine Parade.

Riders have been given a cut-off time of 1.30pm to make it to Broadwater Parklands.
