Does Size Matter? |

I know I did a blog about 'Fashion for Everyone' a couple of weeks ago, but the issue about fashion and size is just so hot right now that I can’t really ignore it.
This week on A Current Affair, you might have seen the segment on large people unable to find boutique/designer labels in their size. I found it contradictory that on one hand here are people saying how happy they were being larger and the size they are, yet complaining that there are no designer labels in their size??? That just doesn’t quite sit with me, how can you be happy about your size yet frustrated that because of your size certain labels you like don’t fit??? I think these people need to understand that fashion caters for the average size body, which these days is a size 10-12 women and a size 34 for men. To blame designers for not catering for them and attacking the fashion industry for being discriminatory is a little far fetched. Perhaps these guys just need to do their research and go visit the stores that are doing plus sizes labels well ie: Autograph, City Chic or consult people who may be able to assist them and point them in the right direction rather than running straight to ACA.
While we are talking about size though, the other issue is how frustrating it is when you a 6 in one store, a 10 in another label and then a 14 in another…what has happened to sizing consistency????? If you’re anything like me, I need to try everything on before I buy it. I have some friends that buy everything online, even $400 designer dresses!?!? Personally unless I knew the designer and how their clothes fit, Id never spend $400 on a dress that wasn’t at least guaranteed to make me look like Jennifer Aniston.
But back to size for a minute, lets face it – we all come in different shapes and sizes and thank goodness for it because it would be one boring place if we all had the same shape and everyone looked the same. I love nothing more than meeting a client who says they dislike their body and within a couple of hours, we have re-educated them on how to dress and all of a sudden bam they now feel fantastic!!!
So embrace yourselves ladies and gents, there are clothes out there for all of us. Sure stick to the sizes for a rough guideline, but when hitting the change room, there is no problem taking in 2 or 3 sizes or asking the sales assistants for a larger or smaller size. Please don’t not buy something because it says it’s a 14 but makes you look beautiful and classy and fits you like a glove. If you are paranoid, once you get home, unpick the label but I urge you, my fellow gorgeous style loving friends, don’t be driven by the size of a label!!!!!
