L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) The Ultimate Fashion Playground! |
March 16, 2010 02:43 PM
Well it certainly was the way to kick off the start of L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2010. Glamour, Style, Inspiration, more Glamour, more style, Beauty, A list celebrities and of course little me – a Party really isn’t a party without me now is it? It was the second year I had the honour of being invited to rub shoulders with the who's who of Australian Fashion together with some inspiring and highly regarded international faces. I had the pleasure of meeting Gabrielle Hackworthy on Sunday night, Editor of Vogue China and Nippon...sensational woman.
The theme was Wonderland. L’Oreal Paris together with Harpers Bazaar and the Australian Ballet brought a Fashion Wonderland to life inside the majestic and purely spectacular grounds of Government House. We were treated to a parade of several masterpieces - Mini Mouse by Sass and Bide (my favourite), Romance was Born’s interpretation of Cruella De Vil in from 101 Dalmatians, Tina Kalivas’s interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, Alice in wonderland by Collette Dinnigan (apparently she is about to release her new range that features the blue tu-tu worn), It's very eclectic but very very cute.
Curve ball, here came Elvis – I must admit one of the best imitators I have seen in years but I didn’t quite get where he slotted into the Wonderland theme but it was nonetheless good fun and had everyone engaged.
The LMFF team did a Phenomenal job.
Highlights from the week so far….so many it’s hard to choose…
Day 1 – The Designers Forum, an afternoon hosted by Gabrielle Hackworthy with Linlee Allen (Writer, Photojournalist and Creative Consultant), Michael Angle (Globally acclaimed Designer) and Tony Glenville (Creative Director at the London College of Fashion, Fashion Commentator, Fashion Journalist and Director) was simply amazing. As inspirational as they come! I came away with ideas flying left right and centre and more inspired than I have ever been before. Thanks guys x.
Day 2 – “Middletons Fashion Law" Breakfast. Middletons are the Fashion Law Experts. For all Fashion Legal needs these guys are the ones you need to talk to. Lisa Egan and Jonathon Feder discussed the legal issues brands are currently facing when doing business online. From how to protect your brand in Australia and Overseas to what you need to be aware about when using Facebook, Twitter, Google and Ebay. Incredibly informative and invaluable advice.
Following their presentation we had a Panel discussion with Fiona Mackintosh from Draggin Jeans and Prue Thomas Strategic Brand Manager from Sportsgirl (yep, best job ever! She’s even worked at Topshop and Selfridges!). She’s incredible. They both discussed the challenges, risks, strategies and successes they faced with various online and social media being used by their respective companies. As I have said before in my opinion Sportsgirl are leading the way with Social Media in regards to brands doing it well, and now…we know why. She is a wealth of knowledge, experience and has a great team that she works with.
It’s a bit tricky trying to keep everyone up to date with what’s going on since my new website unfortunately is not back up and running yet (Rome wasn’t built in a day now was it). Don’t get me wrong, whilst I love mygc.com BLOG and keeping everyone up to date in what’s happening with everything fashion even if it’s not technically on the coast or happening in the coast) make sure you check out the fashion playground on facebook for up to date snippets of where I am and what I’m up to. It was only set up last week, so let’s see how many fans we can get....oh and by the way, for those that know me really well… I found a giant cupcake this morning on my way to the Middletons Breaky, check it out on facebook…it was HUGE!!!! But I resisted the temptation…
Till then, happy days and I will leave you with my most favourite quote of the week so far by Linlee Allen from the LMFF Designer Forum yesterday
“ Just because you’re famous doesn’t mean you’re cool!”. Great chick. She totally rocked. Check out her blog linleeloves.blogspot.com.
