Boy rescued by mother after getting swept into a river by floodwaters, Gold Coast

A primary school student is recovering this morning, after he was swept into a river in Gilston yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Weedons Crossing bridge just after 4.30pm, following reports of a ‘post-submersion’ incident.

The boy was reportedly swept into a river by water covering the footpath.

Luckily, his mother came to the rescue, getting him out of the river.

Paramedics treated him briefly at the scene for minor head injuries, before taking him to hospital for further treatment.

He’s believed to be at the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
