UPDATE | Australian inmate escaped from Bali prison identified

UPDATE 3:54PM | The Australian man who’s escaped from Bali’s Kerobokan Prison has been named as Shaun Edward Davidson.

The 33-year-old dug his way out of the jail with three to six others according to Yahoo.

It follows his arrest for using a fake passport.  He was jailed on April 5, 2016 for using a fake passport and was previously wanted on drug charges in Perth.

Reuters reports the head of the prison Tony Nainggolan said “the tunnel is about 12 metres long and we suspect it took more than a week to build”.

Police believe the men are still in Bali and not far from the prison.

EARLIER 2:43PM BREAKING | An Australian man is reportedly one of seven inmates who have escaped from Bali’s Kerobokan jail.

Ten news is reporting that the men dug under the walls to get out.  Local media reports suggest the tunnel may have been up to 12 metres long.

Kerobokan Prison is the same place Schapelle Corby served her sentence for drug smuggling and some of the surviving members of the so-called ‘Bali Nine’ group are serving their sentences.
