“They closed all the shops down and the police came along and sent us all home,” said Darren.
“They’ve closed the street and are diverting traffic up and around the back of Canungra and then out of town.”
The man at the centre of the drama is sitting in his car opposite a local hotel and Darren said his sister saw the man in his car last night.
“She saw a red commodore with no number plates on it and he was walking around the car and then jumped back in and put a sheet or a doona up the window so they couldn’t really see him.”
Police have declared an exclusion zone with the boundaries being Canungra Creek, Finch Road, Tamborine Mountain Road, Darlington Range Road, Lawson Court and Showground Road as they attempt to speak with the man.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternate route.
