Brisbane cruise ship terminal won’t affect plans for one on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate isn’t’ worried there’ll be another cruise ship terminal in Brisbane and predicts that port, alongside the Gold Coast’s, will make South East Queensland a world-renown destination for tourists.

His reference for this is two of the most popular cruise ship terminals in the world, Fort Lauderdale and Miami, are located only 42km  apart.

Cr Tate told MyGC dual ports in South East Queensland could be the spark the industry needs.

“Brisbane can help the Gold Coast, and the Gold Coast can help Brisbane,” he said.

“I’m of the opinion that having two wonderful locations will give us the critical mass.”

However, there is still a situation where the Gold Coast might not get approval for a cruise ship terminal.

After stints with the ABC and AAP, Mitchell joined 1029 Hot Tomato in 2017. He’ll be out and about bringing you the news that matters on the Coast.
