Cause of Australias deadliest house fire remains a mystery

THE CAUSE of Australia’s deadliest house fire that claimed the lives of 11 people on Brisbane’s South side still remains unknown.

A coroner has been unable to determine what sparked the horrific blaze, which killed 11 people from two families three years ago.

Fourteen people were living inside the house at Slacks Creek when the fire broke out just after midnight in August, 2011.

Three men escaped without injury, whilst 11 family members passed from smoke inhalation.

Findings found that the fire was not deliberately lit, however, if any of the smoke alarms had been working, there was a great chance that all or some of the victims could have escaped.

Stricter legislation to ensure working smoke alarms are fitted in every Queensland bedroom has been proposed.
