Fourteen people were living inside the house at Slacks Creek when the fire broke out just after midnight in August, 2011.

Three men escaped without injury, whilst 11 family members passed from smoke inhalation.
Findings found that the fire was not deliberately lit, however, if any of the smoke alarms had been working, there was a great chance that all or some of the victims could have escaped.
Stricter legislation to ensure working smoke alarms are fitted in every Queensland bedroom has been proposed.
