IT wasn’t the start to the day a Channel 7 camerman was expecting as he made his way to his first job on the Sunshine Coast.
Peter Steer was on his way to cover a siege in Noosa Heads when the suspect, riding a Harley Davidson motorbike, flagged him down.
When Mr Steer pulled over, the man allegedly handed him a gun, stole his news van and fled the scene in it.

“He climbed into the driver’s seat. I was trying to tell him in some say it was a silly idea but he didn’t listen obviously,” Mr Steer told the Sunrise program.
“He took off with the car and luckily the police were just about there so I jumped in with the police.”
“About 10km down the road we found my car smashed into a large LPG tank,” he said.
A 400 metre exclusion zone has been set up around the service station while emergency services deal with the gas leak.
The man had been fleeing police at a Noosa Heads home in which he had allegedly been holed up and threatening people inside.
He’s since been arrested an is assisting police with their enquiries.
Police arrived moments later and arrested the driver of the stolen van.
