Child dies after being hit by van

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy has tragically lost his fight for life and died in hospital, three days after he was run down by a van in Melbourne.

The boy was crossing Springfield Road in Blackburn North when police say he was struck by a Toyota HiAce van shortly before 6.30pm on Saturday.

The 10-year-old from Croydon sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital where he spent more than 48 hours clinging to life on life-support.

Sadly, Victoria Police released a statement confirming the child passed away after the machines that were keeping him alive were switched off on Tuesday.

The 45-year-old man driving the van was interviewed by police and has since been released without charge, pending further enquiries.

The investigation is ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
