Child found unresponsive, floating face down in pool

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after he was found unresponsive, floating face down at a public swimming pool in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Station Street in Penrith about 3pm on Saturday after the child was pulled from the water unconscious.

CareFlight’s rapid response helicopter was also dispatched to the scene where its specialist doctor and critical care paramedic helped ambulances officers treat the boy.

The chopper landed on an oval at the Penrith Paceway, opposite the Nepean Village Shopping Mall.

A CareFlight spokesperson said the child needed to be intubated at the scene before he could be taken to hospital.

The four-year-old boy was rushed by road ambulance to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
