Child found dead near three other bodies in outback Australia

UPDATE @ November 9, 9.45 AM | THE body of a child has been found during the search for a 12-year-old boy missing in outback Australia.

The youngster’s body was discovered 120mtrs from where three people were found dead beside a broken down car on Jarra Jarra Road on Wednesday.

Northern Territory Police have not confirmed whether the body is that of the 12-year-old boy, believed to be a passenger in the car.

Southern Desert Division Superintendent Jody Nobbs said police are yet to rule out whether there may have been more passengers in the vehicle.

“Although police have no information that suggests there were other passengers in the car, we will continue a precautionary land and air search until we are satisfied that all areas of interest have been sufficiently canvassed,” he said.

The bodies of a 19-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a three-year-old boy were discovered just after midday on Wednesday after a man raised the alarm at the Willowra Health Clinic.

Police said the deaths are a “tragic situation” and are not being treated as suspicious. According to local media, there’s reports the young family may have died from exposure.

EARLIER @ November 8, 12.15PM | A MAJOR land and air search is currently underway for a child after three people were found dead in a remote area in the Northern Territory.

The bodies of a 19-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a three-year-old boy were discovered near their broken down vehicle in the Willowra district, more than 300km north of Alice Springs, on Wednesday.

It’s understood police were alerted to the deaths after a man raised the alarm at the Willowra Health Clinic just after midday.

Police said the deaths are a “tragic situation” and are not being treated as suspicious. According to local media, there’s reports the young family may have died from exposure.

At a press conference on Thursday morning, Investigators revealed that a major land and air search is now underway for another child who they believe may have also been in the car.

“Further enquiries indicate it is possible a 12-year-old boy was a passenger in the vehicle and was not among the three people found dead,” police said.

Family members have not authorised the release of the child’s name, however have advised Police that members in the surrounding communities of Ali Curung, Ti Tree and Willowra are aware of his particulars.

Police are calling on anyone with information in relation to the whereabouts of the child to contact them immediately on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
