Childcare workers charged over death of toddler on bus granted bail

The two childcare workers charged with the manslaughter of a three year old boy, who was found dead on a daycare bus in Cairns last week, have been granted bail.

34-year-old Dionne Batrice Grills and the 45-year-old Michael Lewis are each facing a charge of manslaughter, with police alleging they both had a duty of care to the boy.

Police say the boy was picked up on the morning of February 18 on the way to daycare, before being left on the unattended bus for several hours, before he was found unresponsive after 3.00pm.

Ms Grills appeared in court this morning where she was granted bail with non-contact provisions, meaning that she’s to have no contact with the victim’s family, her co-workers or her co-accused.

Mr Lewis fronted court a little later and was also granted bail.

Ms Grills’ made no comment when leaving Cairns court this morning. Her case is set to return to court on March 18.
