A VINTAGE Holden HT GTS Monaro Coupe dubbed the “pride of the fleet” has sold for a record-breaking price at a classic car auction on the Gold Coast.
The pristine 1970s race car sold for a staggering $312,000 at Lloyd’s Auction in Carrara on Saturday. It’s a new record price for the Monaro model which first sold for less than $4000.
The “Platinum Metallic” Monaro boasts five seats, a meaty 5.7 litre V8 Chevrolet engine, a two-speed power glide automatic transmission and twin air scoops on the bonnet.

With just 119,000km on the odometer, more than 160,000 potential buyers were expected to tune into the auction’s live stream online for a chance to snap up the piece of Aussie motoring history.
The same auction house sold a vintage 1977 Torana for $260,000 within a matter of minutes back in January.
