4WD caught on Sundale Bridge tramway

UPDATE: EMERGENCY services are attempting to remove a woman’s 4WD caught in tram tracks on the Sundale Bridge.

It’s understood the female driver of the black 4WD entered the tramway from Barney Street, Southport just before 4pm. 

It’s being reported the woman – said to be aged 58 – has since been taken away from the scene by police.

The incident has halted light rail services in both directions between Surfers Paradise north and Southport.

Buses are being arranged to transport passengers between stations.

EARLIER: A CONFUSED driver has found themselves stuck on tram tracks on the Gold Coast’s Sundale Bridge.

It’s understood the black 4WD was headed into Surfers when it accidentally entered the tramway from Barney Street, Southport. 

The vehicle stopped after becoming wedged between tracks and the female driver is out and walking around.

Light rail services have been suspended in both directions between Southport and Surfers Paradise and buses are being arranged to transport passengers, with initial delays of up to 30 minutes expected.

Emergency services are responding. There’s no further information available at this time.
