Construction starts on HOTA extension

Mayor Tom Tate was on hand this morning for the start of construction on the Council’s $60 million dollar art gallery.

HOTA Gallery will be completed by late 2020 and the Mayor is excited about what the development will bring.

“We all love the outdoors and we love our art and culture,” he said.

“The new gallery combines both, with work starting on reconfiguring the carpark today.”

Gold Coast City Council insists there won’t be any overall loss of carparks at the venue and that they’re committed to keeping parkland accessible.

“We’ve enjoyed an additional 3500sqm of green space since we started building the cultural precinct in 2016,” Cr Tate said.

“With reconfigurations and these (new) 123 carparks, there will be no overall loss of the bays.”

The Gallery will start to take shape in mid-2019 and will bring in almost 200 jobs during construction.
