Could Tamborine Mountain soon become part of the Gold Coast?

Mayor Tom Tate has thrown his support behind the push to make Tamborine Mountain officially part of the Gold Coast.

At the moment the small community town is under the Scenic Rim Regional Council, however recent reports suggest locals and business owners are keen to join Gold Coast City Council in a bid to lure more tourists to the area.

When asked what he thought of the potential move, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said it was “up to the residents” but confirmed he was “open” to the idea.

“Mount Tamborine is a wonderful region in Southeast Queensland,” Mayor Tate said.

“I’ll leave it to the residents in Mount Tamborine if they wish to approach the State Government and get the boundary changed so that they can be part of the Gold Coast.”

He added that there’s “only two types of Australians”… “one that lives on the Gold Coast and the other that wish they live here.”

“So let’s make it real for Mount Tamborine residents,” he said.
