Council to discuss future, challenges facing Gold Coast Show

The future of the Gold Coast show will be discussed at a workshop over the coming weeks.

Council yesterday agreed to hold the workshop in order to consider the challenges currently facing the annual show.

It’s understood the workshop will look at whether the existing site at Gold Coast Turf Club is the best venue for the show, as well as financial troubles the Gold Coast Show Society is facing.

Mayor Tom Tate has made it clear that the State Government will need to be a part of the future solution, with the Government ending the show’s tenure at Parklands, when construction on the GC2018 Athletes’ Village started.

Mayor Tate said all councillors wanted to see the show enjoy “another century or more’’ of family entertainment for residents and visitors but tough decisions need to be made.

A City of Gold Coast spokesperson said the State Government will be approached after the Council workshop.
