More than a dozen fire crews battling large Stapylton blaze

LATEST @ 5.15 PM | An ‘Advice’ warning has now been issued for a bushfire burning at Stapylton.

More than a dozen crews are continuing to battle the blaze, which started around 2.00pm this afternoon just off Rossmans Road.

15 crews are currently on scene, with another five en-route.

Rossmans Road and Quarry Road are closed between the tip and the quarry with Queensland Police directing traffic.

Queensland Fire and Emergency is urging residents in the area to ‘stay informed’.

LATEST @ 4.30 PM | More than a dozen fire crews are continuing to battle a massive fire burning at Stapylton.

The blaze erupted near Rossmans Road about 2.30pm on Thursday afternoon.

15 fire crews are on scene working to fight the flames, with another five currently en-route.

There’s a large amount of smoke in the area, with police helping to direct traffic.

Residents are being urged to close all windows and doors and keep medication close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.

LATEST @ 3.20 PM | Multiple fire crews are currently battling a large fire that has erupted at Stapylton.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency service spokesperson confirmed to myGC that nine crews are on scene working to extinguish the flames, which are burning near Rossmans Road.

The fire broke out just before 2.30pm on Thursday, with a smoke alert issued for the area.

Residents are being urged to close all windows and doors and keep medication close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.

Police have also been called in to manage traffic in the area, with motorists urged to drive with caution.

Meanwhile, a grass fire is continuing to burn on the side of the Pacific Motorway in Merrimac.

The blaze is causing lengthy delays for southbound drivers.

UPDATE @ 2.30 PM | Another grass fire has broken out on the side of the Pacific Motorway, causing lengthy delays for motorists travelling through the area.

The blaze is burning just behind the concrete barriers southbound at Merrimac.

Three crews are on scene working to extinguish the flames.

Two southbound lanes are currently blocked, with traffic control also on scene.

Motorists are being urged to travel with caution through the area.

EARLIER @ 12.45 PM | Fire crews are being kept on their toes today, with scorching hot temperatures flaring flames across the coast.

Three grass fires are currently burning along three different sections of the Pacific Motorway.

One blaze has erupted near Smith Street in Gaven, while two crews have been called to another burning southbound on the M1 in Currumbin.

A small grass fire has also broken out near the Pacific Motorway on-ramp in Tugun.

Crews are on scene extinguishing the flames, however motorists are being urged to travel with caution with smoke likely to affect the areas.

A ‘Severe’ fire danger rating remains in place for the Gold Coast today, with residents urged to be vigilant.
