Dance party refused for NSW Schoolies

AT this stage a Surfers Paradise beach party will not be held for New South Wales schoolies, with an application refused by a Council Committee.

The application, believed to be organised by entertainment king Billy Cross, was put through a Community and Cultural Development Committee meeting on Thursday.

After much discussion and a far from unanimous decision, the Committee recommended to refuse the application.

It will now go to a full Council meeting where it is expected to face plenty of debate, with the idea sitting well with a lot of local traders.

Several Surfers Paradise businesses are generally pleased with the idea and are happy to see any opportunity to bring more people to the area.

Currently, celebrations are only organised for Queensland school leavers from November 22-29.

New South Wales and Victorian school leavers kick off their end of year event the following week.
