Defence Chief confirms first armed jet fighter mission in Iraq

AUSTRALIAN jet fighters have completed their first armed mission in Northern Iraq.

The Chief of Defence made the announcement via Twitter on Monday morning.

Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin tweeted that the two F/A-18F Super Hornets completed the armed combat mission assisting coalition forces against Islamic State militants in Iraq.

He said no munitions were expended and the fighters returned safely to base.

There’s no word as to when the mission occured but there’s reports they happened overnight.
