Dozens of firefighters battle raging inferno at Sydney’s Olympic Park

SEVENTY firefighters are battling a large fire which has consumed a building at Sydney Olympic Park.

The blaze broke out in the Monster Skatepark arena near the main stadium off Showground Road at Homebush around 2.30pm on Friday.

Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed 70 firefighters were dispatched to extinguish the inferno which sent a huge plume of thick black smoke billowing into the air above the city’s western suburbs.

The Monster Skatepark is located next to ANZ Stadium which is expected to host large crowds for tonight’s NRL match between the Wests Tigers and Rabbitohs.

Fire crews worked quickly to bring the blaze under control and contain it to the skating hall.

Initial information suggests the fire may have started in a foam pit.
