Driver dies on roadside after crash goes unnoticed

A MAN has been found dead on the side of the road after crashing his car into a tree near Gympie.

The 59-year-old’s Mitsubishi Challenger was found wrapped around a tree on Tagigan Road at Wolvi.

Police believe the crash happened sometime between 2.30 and 3am on Thursday but the scene wasn’t discovered for at least another two hours.

It’s understood a passing motorist raised the alarm after driving past the crash site shortly after 5am.

Sadly, there was nothing anyone could do to save the driver, who had passed away from his injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
